East County San Diego is located at the eastern part of the city by the same name. It has no official characteristic classification. The county consists of mostly east side San Diego county suburbs, even though many of the suburban neighborhoods lie in the region’s western side. Configured of various cities, towns, and communities like Santee, El Cajon, San Carlos, Del Cerro, and La Mesa, the county has evolved into a well-respected place to live with easy access to Downtown San Diego and additional essential landmarks in the vicinity.

Education is served by the Santee School District, Grossmont Union High School District, Cajon Valley, Lakeside, Lemon Grove, and La Mess Spring Valley School districts. Cuyamaca Community College and Grossmont College are two community colleges situated in El Cajon as well as a Christian college.
