East County San Diego is located at the eastern part of the city by the same name. It has no official characteristic classification. The county consists of mostly east side San Diego county suburbs, even though many of the suburban neighborhoods lie in the region’s western side. Configured of various cities, towns, and communities like Santee, El Cajon, San Carlos, Del Cerro, and La Mesa, the county has evolved into a well-respected place to live with easy access to Downtown San Diego and additional essential landmarks in the vicinity.
With a flourishing commercial aspect and affluent residential side, the county has turned into a fantastic equilibrium of work and play. Each section of each district brings their own diversity and influence to the area.
The inhabitants of the county mainly live within the interior-valleys east of the city, while some development impinges the coastal foothills. A more expansive definition of the region includes the desert region of Anza Borrego State Park, Palomar Mountains, Laguna Mountains, and the Cuyamaca Mountains.
Shopping is a favorite past time for many residents, thanks to the superb opportunities throughout the district. Grossmont Shopping Center, 94 Country Plaza, Westfield Parkway, and Viejas Outlet Center, are just a few of the major retail outlets residents have access to. There are brand name shops, designer boutiques, and national companies, while other shopping centers cater to big box retailers and discounters.
County residents and visitors alike celebrate several special events. The choice of festivals and events that take place all year round are both entertaining and easy on the budget. For example, La Mesa Oktoberfest is one of the most highly attended events because of the outstanding dishes and cultural entertainment. The LMV Back to the 50s Car Show and the Cajon Classic Cruise are two more very sought after events. In addition, there are air shows, western heritage days, and additional spectacular events, which make living in the county very special.
Fishing, biking, paragliding, hiking, golfing, or perhaps defying the high desert of the county that emphasizes the importance of eco tourism provides a dazzling world of family enjoyment. Top class resorts for visitors, Vegas style casinos, and the Pacific Ocean less than 30 minutes away, is nothing short of paradise.
Between the mountains of Alpine and the beaches of San Diego, lay cities known as the “Sunny Side of San Diego.” Regardless of which one of the amazing communities one chooses to live, the vibrancy and beauty of the county is never hidden. For example, outstanding geologic formations take in El Capitan, a huge dome silhouette mountain that overlooks Lakeside and Santee.
