Del Mar is recognized as one of the most stunning, idealistic beach towns in the world. The township is two square miles positioned down the Northern San Diego County coast, celebrated for its beaches and fairgrounds named after the town itself.
As far back as the 1880s, the town’s old world charm is mirrored in the picturesque exposed beamed Tudor styled architecture. The township is situated between 9th and 15th streets and incorporates a number of specialty shops and bistro styled terraced dining. With striking canyons sprinkled with hillsides of bespoke domiciles and spectacular sunsets, this quixotic village is an international destination for tourists and residents alike.
If you love small, seaside hideaways that is close to a well-known city, with tranquil salt water lagoons on each end then this quaint, easygoing town is for you. The exceptional climate, renowned thoroughbred racetrack, unique shopping, haute cuisine, county fair, and fabulous beaches will leave you mesmerized.
The town boasts a population of roughly 4,500 and offers an oasis of leisurely, yet sophisticated living. It’s so convenient, a car won’t be necessary in order to enjoy the abundance of amenities. Today you will find over 60 shops filled with haute couture clothing, over 20 restaurants, and a selection of hotel accommodations for visitors.
Occupying two miles of beautiful coastline that emit gently crashing waves, Del Mar encompasses the ideal destination for those in search of the legendary California surf. There’s even a special beach section for pets! Sea lions, porpoises, whales, and a multitude of birdlife inhabit the glistening coastal waters and lagoons. The town is a wonderful place to live or visit for young and old alike.
There are several parks for residents to enjoy. Seagrove Park and adjacent Powerhouse Park are idyllic grassy locales for a wedding or picnic, romantic couples catching the sunset, walking a dog, or ogling the regal Pacific.
The summer is filled with free concerts in the parks. A lovely children’s area called “Tot Lot” is next to the Powerhouse Park offering great fun for family and friends. Furthermore, the community library is a landmark in itself. In 2002, two resident artists produced the mixed media-mosaic on the wall that surrounds the memorable building. The site has been used as an acclaimed church for both residents and the Hollywood set. The wall artistic designs include souvenirs and possessions from Del Mar’s history along with terracotta-birds and wildlife from the vicinity.
