The city of Carlsbad takes pride in offering an outstandingly high level of service to its inhabitants. The seaside community has managed to maintain its small town ambiance by carefully directing growth, inspiring community involvements, and conserving over a third of the city as a protected area.
With two world-class resorts and nearly perfect weather, the city also supports economic development, is home to an international theme park, and has earned the reputation as the golf capital of the world. You will find a commuter train, fantastic bus service, and the most active single-runway airport in the United States. The district is a wonderful place to live, with miles of sandy beaches, a broad range of housing options, great shopping, first-rate public library, and outstanding schools.
There are many major attractions in this well-heeled town to keep you entertained like LegoLand, Sea Life Aquarium, K1 Speed, the Flower Field, and much more! Whether you live in the area or visiting, there is plenty to do for families, couples, or singles.
In addition, Fortune Magazine rated the town as one of the country’s top five places to retire. The magazine highlighted the community’s wide-open space, safety, ideal climate, smog-free ocean winds, and far distance from any earthquake fault-zone. However, despite its “retirement haven” characterization, the town has a relatively young populace with a median age of around 32, with 78% of residents under 55 years of age.
The community is a mix of residences and businesses. The downtown area is popular for shopping and the beaches are all the rage for sunbathing, surfing, and BBQs. In the vicinity close to Palomar Airport are a number of high-tech industries. You will find golf and tennis at the La Costa resort and plush resorts like the Aviara Four Season for relaxation.
The district is made-up of several neighborhoods. The northwest quadrant consist of the downtown Old Carlsbad and the Barrio. The northeast quadrant is occupied primarily by single-family homes, with bigger lots established in the older area called Chestnut Hills, positioned north of Palomar Airport Road and El Camino Real. The southeast quadrant includes a number of recently created communities situated amongst golf courses, rolling hillsides, and open space.
Residents are also served by a prized school district, which includes the La Costa neighborhood. The southwest quadrant expands down the Pacific Ocean to the south center of the city and takes in the Aviara quarter. It is located south of Palomar Airport Road and west of El Camino Real.
Carlsbad has outlined ordinances preserving wildlife habitat and one of the first cities in California to do so. In addition, the city has pledged to safeguard a certain amount of land within the city limits from any type of development, and spends considerable funds to reinstate habitats shattered by newer development projects.
